Deanne Paddles : Stand Up Paddleboarding Basics
Paddleboarding is a relatively new sport in Canada. I went out for the first time in about 2012, and loved it. Im always up for a challenge, and an adventure, combine that with being out on the water and I was hooked!
I recently had the pleasure of doing my SUP yoga and fitness teacher training as well as the paddle Canada basics instructor course with kristy from Stand Up Paddle Vancouver. It was an amazing experience! I learned so much, and met an amazing group of people!
To try out stand up paddleboarding I recommend you find a teacher to take you out for you’re first time. They will be able to recommend a board and paddle for you to rent, and teach you about the benefits of different board and paddle designs. Keep in mind that your paddling adventure will be dependent on the weather and water conditions.
Beginner SUP classes start at approximately $40, and can go bot the $100 range. SUP boards range from $500 to well over $3000. Some boards include a paddle, but you can purchase one separately for $200 to well over $1000.they are many companies who provide SUP board rentals, the rate will depend on location and length of rental. Renting a board is a great option if you’re just starting out. This gives you the opportunity to try out different kinds of boards and paddles, and make sure this is a sport you want to spend more time doing before making a large investment into your own equipment.
